Pearl
Pohl
1887-1982
Inducted 1991
A Milwaukee native and graduate
of normal school there, Pohl combined a
deep interest in conservation with her
long career in elementary education. She
pioneered outdoor field trips and involved
her sixth graders in environmental issues
by them writing letters to Congress.
She
became president of the Izaak Walton
League's Milwaukee chapter in 1952 and
its secretary for many years. During her
adult life, there was hardly a conservation
organization or issue in which she was
not involved. Her accomplishments were
recognized by the Izaak Walton League,
Milwaukee County Conservation Alliance
and Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts
and Letters, among others, and in 1956
she received a citation of merit from Gov.
Warren Knowles.
